F.A.Q's: what it's like to work with me as a developmental editor for academic manuscripts, peer review, R&R, Revise and Resubmit, editing services

 F.A.Q’s

Do you offer ghost-writing services?

Yes, get in touch with me about what you need written. If we’re a good fit, I offer complete confidentiality and discretion.

Can you do a rush delivery?

Depending on how tight your deadline is and what my other client obligations that week are, I can usually make something happen.  Just get in touch with me in the form below or schedule a 15 minute consult with me.

My paper is an unorganized mess, I’m totally lost and don’t even think it’s ready for another set of eyes, I’m so embarrassed!

To be fair, this is less of a question than a comment that I have heard with every single one of my clients— and every single time, it’s never as bad as they’re imagining, and also: I’m the academic Marie Kondo (I love messes), restoring order to a complex analysis is my editing sweet-spot.

What’s the difference between a writing coach and a dev-editor?

Usually for bigger projects, I become more like a writing coach than a straight forward dev-editor-- I excel at keeping absent minded professors on their deadline (hehe). But I love cheering all my clients on, because there always needs to be more joy infused when it comes to academic writing (especially for fickle peer reviewers).

What is the maximum word count you allow for your packages?

Editing packages are designed for both peer-review length articles, which typically fall between 6,000-10,000 words. And I know: you’re over the word count. As long as the manuscript is under 12,000 I’ll still include it in my package pricing, but do note: the longer it is, the less time I can spend on the details of making sure your argument sings.

How long do you need to comment on my draft?

Generally speaking, I need 5 days with a manuscript to deliver feedback. When we are working together for multiple revision rounds, we determine the schedule in advance to ensure it works for both of us.

What is a “Revision Round”?

After reading through your document & speaking with you, I’ll send you a word docx with track changes and revision comments. Along with this document, you’ll also receive a 10 minute video walk-through of your paper and a series of recommended next steps for you finish strong on your own.

What do you mean by “video walk through” of my document?

A screen-recording of my suggestions and comments in your document, for you to review at your own pace. I discovered this teaching during the pandemic, and both my students and clients immediately loved the detail it allows me to provide to them relatively quickly.

What do you mean by “Revision Roadmap”?

I provide my clients with outlines based on their arguments & needs with clear directions and step-by-step advice on improving the argumentation, organizational flow, and voice throughout your document.
